Aniseed comes from the anise plant and has a sweet, warm aromatic flavour. It is known for its aroma of liquorice and is often used to flavour cakes and biscuits - it is used in our cookbook SWEET. Not to be confused with Star anise however! Both have a comparable liquorice flavour but aniseed is a more mild, and used a lot in baking.
